Home
in a Meadow
Architect Sarah Susanka has featured this landscape in her
new landscape design book, ‘Outside the Not So Big
House', a sequel to her popular book series and co-authored by
Julie Moir Messervy, nationally-known landscape designer and writer.
"The use of local materials relates this house wonderfully to its surrounds. The front walk interweaves several kinds of stones to help signal which way to go: Take the straight, cut-stone walkway to get to the front door, or follow the irregular stepping-stone path to stroll around the garden."

Retreat in the Mountains
The architecture and landscape of this place is a duet of refuge and prospect.
The approach to the house follows the old farm road, sweeping in and out
of sunny meadows and intimate white pine forests. Inside the mood of each
room is reflected by the extending outdoor space – the earth-toned
kitchen looks out to the shady woodland garden; the bright, cheerful living
room spills out to the spacious terraces surrounded by colorful wildflower
gardens and dramatic mountain views.
