Nantucket Paradise l Nantucket, Massachusetts
Published in ‘New England Home’s Cape and Islands’ Summer Issue, 2009.
This collaboration of architect, interior designer and landscape architect melds seamlessly with Nantucket’s environment, using native vegetation to create a flourishing landscape. The landscape offers a multi-sensory experience that integrates sounds (such as high grasses that catch the wind) and fragrances (from colorful native plants that attract birds and pollinators). Both indoors and outdoors, the modern color palette marries bright hues with creams, browns, and greens that echo the colors of the coastal landscape.
The main house and guest house are on a central axis overlooking a formal composition of slate pool and spa, outdoor kitchen with pergola, a shingled outbuilding with changing room and outdoor shower, and lush coastal gardens. The exterior use of materials including cedar and bluestone create a rural Nantucket aesthetic. According to ‘New England Home’s Cape and Islands,’ which featured the Nantucket Paradise, ‘The final result was the reinvention of timeless Nantucket style.’
