Modern simplicity reflects the restful beauty of this Vermont Green Mountain home and provides a zen-like retreat for this busy urban family. Cascading gardens, stone steps and retaining walls connect a tapestry of inviting outdoor spaces situated at varying levels on a steep, narrow ridge.

Local artisans installed a calming array of regional materials, including rounded river stone walls found in the adjacent home’s foundation, warm blush limestone terraces, stainless steel stair risers, and copper fireplace accents crafted by local welders. A subtly arched infinity pool frames a picture perfect view of the mountains, while reflecting the color of the sky above. A stone fireplace provides a backdrop to an outdoor dining deck, and a contemporary fire pit anchored next to outdoor seating provides a warm focal point for relaxation. These locally sourced materials, along with tucked away native wildflower gardens, seamlessly integrate the site with its bucolic Vermont surroundings.

Not only is the design tranquil and calming, but it also provides ample opportunities for rambling and recreation, including a tennis court carved into the lower part of the ridge. Fieldstone steps wind down the steep hillside of native raspberry and wildflowers to a secret fieldstone patio in the woods nestled along a mountain brook. From there, a bridge crosses the water where one can access the extensive network of trails throughout the neighborhood.
