Lakeside Retreat l   Shelburne, Vermont

The spirit behind this exciting design project was to gently ease a new home and landscape into the continuous plane of land and lake. Careful house siting and land planning were key to capturing the big view and creating a subtle transition from indoors to the water beyond. The Corinthian Granite in the living room fireplace extends out to the landscape and shrouds the grill, fire ring, seat wall and house foundation.  Mirroring the colors of the lake and sky at sunset, the granite elements help anchor the house and outdoor rooms and create the perfect harmony of home and environment. Pollinators find refuge here also. Although the backyard is simple and serene, the colorful front gardens welcome the owners and their guests, while providing an endless supply of nectar for butterflies, bees and hummingbirds.
