Memorial Garden East Montpelier, Vermont
The native woodland Memorial Garden is discreetly tucked away in a quiet corner of the Old Meeting House property and adjacent to the 200-year-old building that is a designated historical landmark in Vermont. The woodland garden is intended to be an extension of this Community Church in which everyone is welcome. The circular path spirals inward to the central circular gathering space. The spiral is significant as it is a pattern abundantly found in nature and symbolizes the sacredness in everyone’s heart and soul. A tapestry of native woodland plants carpets the forest floor and serves as a place of interment for the ashes of loved ones who have passed on. Wooden benches and rock seats along the path are oriented toward the ‘heart’ of the spiral. Here is a singular large rock with sculpted basin and circular patio for small gatherings including baptisms. A granite memorial plaque on a ledge overlooking the garden includes the names of those laid to rest here.
